Game Story

The story is set in a world where the spirits of the oppressed turn into spectral cats after death, forming two distinct factions:
The Ghost Cats, who seek liberation for others.
The Cat God, a manipulative figure who finds satisfaction in oppression.
The protagonist, Shijin, is a cat-like entity created by the military to bridge the worlds of humans and spirits, with a peculiar vulnerability – an allergy to humans.
Players will take on the role of Shijin as he investigates a mysterious case involving the mysterious Ms. Daphne, while facing complex characters such as Fuyun, a writer struggling with his past and present, and other characters affected by social issues such as bullying, domestic violence, and the exploitation of creativity in the age of artificial intelligence.

Themes and Inspiration

Things we want to talk about are mainly about four parts:
-
The "Kick-the-Cat" Effect: Our game explores two types of victims in the "kick-the-cat" effect. Some choose to inflict their past traumas on others for personal satisfaction, while others aim to prevent further harm by breaking the cycle of pain. Through this lens, we touch on real issues like school bullying, domestic violence, and international conflicts. Our focus is on empathy and aligning with anti-violence forces to reach a positive outcome, inspiring players to think about compassion and social issues.
-
Family Bonds: While everyone hopes for a nurturing family environment, reality often falls short. We designed two contrasting families in the game, both filled with deep love despite their unique struggles. This element offers players a gentle, therapeutic reflection on family relationships.
-
School Bullying: The demo revolves around a bullying incident at school, where players guide events to bring justice and restore a safe environment. Although in reality, justice sometimes does not arrive.
-
Challenges for Creators in the Age of AI: In today’s AI-driven world, many creators feel anxious, fearing that AI’s rapid production will overshadow human creativity. This theme is embodied by Fuyun, a writer whose ideas have been stolen by AI-driven competitors, leaving her disheartened. Yet, she finds comfort in her mother’s supportive messages. We hope to provide a sense of encouragement and appreciation for creators’ unique contributions, which AI can never truly replicate.

More About "Allergies Cat"
This is a collaborative game project that started with just four people: me, the lead creator, art director, and another developer. Gradually, more people joined, and our project grew larger and larger. In the end, it even got released on Android and entered a major Chinese game jam, the College Students' Innovation Competition, where we won third prize in the Beijing division.
It felt like a dream, I can only say it is the power of teamwork.
Though I contributed to designing the game’s world, I didn’t create this story.
I love this story very much, it also feels like a dream itself, speaking of innocent dreams — of ending oppression, of stopping bullying, of healing painful childhoods, and addressing the challenges posed by AI.
These are issues that have plagued humanity for so many years. I’ve never dared to touch such heavy themes in my own stories, which tend to be lighter and carefully avoid controversy, instead, focusing on the subtleties of personal emotions.
But the lead creator of Allergies Cat, my friend, she boldly tackled these topics, and I deeply admire that courage. It’s what made me eager to join the project. From just an idea to an actual release, it took us about six months, and I consider this experience invaluable.
I especially love the ending of this story: the Ghost Cat absorbs all the dissatisfaction and pain of this world, taking all its hopes and beauty with it to perish alongside the Cat God. The Cat God can never truly die, for there will always be evil in the world, and the Ghost Cat cannot die either, for as long as there is evil, there will also be good.
And finally, thank you for reading this, my friend. Wishing you be happy every day.
